Artist Statement
Amanda's works vary from drawings, sculpture as well as painting. She feels no bounds when it comes to art making.
Her last collection entitled "Dancers" is a life size display of black and white gestural paintings that invoke a sense of motion and energy. Deeply connected to the process of creating work, her hope is that the viewer not only see the end result of the process but also connect to the energy it took to make the work. They are expressionist in form and style as well as abstract. You may, or may not, be able to make out a literal form from the markings. The forms are representational of the artist in motion.
Emotion and connection drive her work. Using life size canvas in an attempting to make an engaging visual environment. Whether it’s utilizing line, shapes, shadows, negative and positive space, or color. Amanda wants the viewers eyes to move around the surface, searching, informing the viewer without using physical imagery.
"I create what I want to see or appropriate what I’m attracted to." - Coffee
Gestural loose style veering away from ultra-realism helps achieve this balance. This allows the movement to tell a story on its own. Scale, placement, technique, ext., makes the viewer search for understanding.
"Art should create a sense of wonder. It is through my art that I wish to invoke such emotion." - Amanda Coffee
